This man Irving Fajans was a department store worker that lived in new york. He has to do with the time period were studying because he lived in New york during the times of the great depression and in the particular department store that he worked in (Macys) there was a union starting but it was kept secret to the bosses if you were caught distributing leaflets about the union then you were instantly fired. At night they would leave inserts of leaflets in the sale ledgers and every clerk would find a pink sheet saying "Good Morning, how's everything...and how about coming to Union meeting tonight" this has to do with what were studying because in the great depression unions were first beginning and people would do anything they could do to keep their jobs.
This man Chris Thorsten was an iron worker, his job was risky because people were always getting injured and 2 people were killed working on a new york hotel. One day on the job he was squeezed inbetween a crane and broke a collar bone all his ribs and 3 vertebrae, this has to do with our studies because it shows how people would work the most dangerous jobs just to feed their familys during the great depression.
This lady Mrs. Mayme Reese was asked what the ladies did when they met up during the great depression and she explain how atleast twice a year a bunch of women would get together and go to a house then have a quilting party. A quilt was made and brought to the county fair where it was signed up for a contest and you would try to win the prize, this has to do with the great depression because the women would make quilts to pass the time.
A man at the colonial park was interviewed then asked and poor and rich people have anything in common he responded that Old man Ford and old man rockerfellar breath the same air that he does and god intended that they are both the same class of people.
This man named Clyde "Kingfish" Smith started peddleing in 1932 and selling fish for 5 cents a pound. Kingfish started singing a song that rhymed and people got hooked and when everyone realized the cheap price for the fish he made lots of business. He says peddling is all about your mood if people like your mood then they will buy your stuff, he also notes that king kong liqour helps that. This has to do with what were studying because during the great depression new york started having street vendors and that resulted in the present now having streets filled with them.
This man Jim cole was a butcher for 20 years and he was good at what he did, he wanted to join a group called the AFL union, the Amalgamated Butchers and Meat Cutters, and he didnt make it. They never told him why he didnt make it despite his skill but he knew it was because he was a negro.
